2021 Nissan Maxima
The Nissan Maxima is a sporty full-size sedan. It has an exterior style that stands out from other sedans, offers sharp and precise handling, and has a strong V-6 engine. For 2021 Nissan added a 40th Anniversary Edition model to the lineup that gives the high-end Platinum a more aggressive style. Other changes for the Maxima include a shifting of features between trims, adding more to the SV, SR, and Platinum, and removing the S and SL trims from the lineup. Here's a look at the 2021 Nissan Maxima.
Trim Levels
The entry-level Maxima SV has 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated side exterior mirrors, and keyless entry. Just a step up to the SR adds 19-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and self-dimming side exterior mirrors. The top-level Platinum trim removes the sport suspension but adds the option for the 40th Anniversary package. This comes with gloss-black 19-inch alloy wheels, black exterior trim elements, a black roof, and Ruby Slate Gray Pearl exterior paint.
Engine
All three Maxima models come with a 3.5-liter V-6 gas engine. It puts out 300 horsepower, gets 261 pound-feet of torque, and works with Nissan's continuously variable automatic transmission. This CVT is one of the best you can get and does an excellent job of simulating the gears of a traditional transmission. Every model comes with front-wheel drive.
Performance
According to the EPA, the Maxima will get up to 30 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg when driving in the city. The engine is plenty strong enough to propel the sedan up to highway speeds. The Maxima is a sporty sedan, and it handles like one with a suspension that keeps it connected to the road, even when heading around tight curves. The available Intelligent Ride Control adds to the smooth ride by automatically reduces engine power and lightly applies the brakes to keep the car from pitching when going over rough roads.
Interior
The Maxima has room for five. The front seats are supportive and comfortable, and the cabin features upscale materials in all three models. Leather upholstery comes standard, even in the base trim, which also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats. Every trim comes with a power-adjustable driver's seat and a power-adjustable passenger seat. The SR adds a heated steering wheel, paddle shifters, and it has heated and ventilated front seats.
Technology features in the 2021 Maxima start with an 8-inch touch screen, Wi-Fi, navigation, NissanConnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it has satellite radio.
Safety Features
Every Maxima comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360. This group of safety systems includes forward collision warning with a mitigation system that includes automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear automatic braking. It also includes lane departure warning, automatic high beam headlights, a traffic sign reader, and a drowsy driver monitor. The SR adds additional safety features such as front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and lane-keep assist, while the Platinum adds automatic windshield wipers.
